The Zamfara State Magistrate begin investigating Deputy Governor, Aliyu Mahdi Gusau

Zamfara State Chief Justice, Kulu Aliyu has sworn in a five-member panel to investigate allegations of misconduct by Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau.

The panel, headed by former Judge Tanko Soba, was formed as a result of the constitutional mandate of the judge, according to Justice Kulu.

She added that Section 185 (5) of the Nigerian Constitution allows her to form the committee following a request by the Zamfara State House of Assembly on February 10 to complain to the deputy governor.

Meanwhile, the Abuja High Court has set March 10 for the commencement of the hearing of a petition filed by Mahdi Gusau seeking a stop of impeachment proceedings by lawmakers, Daily Trust reported.

Judge Inyang Ekwo adjourned the hearing on Tuesday, ordering the parties to prepare for the trial.

Last Thursday, 18 out of 22 lawmakers approved the impeachment of the deputy governor, who is still in the opposition PDP, for alleged misconduct. In 2021, Governor Bello Matawalle defected from the PDP to the ruling APC.
